President Trump hit the reset button on government dissemination of climate change information and further research into the issue. The Climate Change page was stripped from whitehouse.gov and the EPA has been ordered to removed all references to global climate change. The government is actually denying science from its own agencies. There has been a loud wailing and gnashing of teeth (and justifiably so from the environmental and scientific communities) has the current Administration attempts to roll back years of research and solid science. This is a policy disaster flies in the face of all facts as the rest of the planet seems to be listening to the science.
But, there is a silver lining to this gloom and doom. Perhaps, the momentum in overcoming global climate change should come from the People rather than the Government and its political whims. Let’s be honest, the United States has been an abject failure on the issue through multiple administrations, both Democrat and Republican. The federal government seems to be unwilling to take real steps to solve the problem. Now, we are forced to start leading the discussion and willingness for positive change. We have the power of the purse, freedom of speech, and the science on our side. Let’s implement, debate, and support research, while the Trump administration continues to stuff its head into the sand.
